Co-Parenting Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder [BC Collaborative Roster Society]

October 31, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Divorce professionals are increasingly likely to work with families seeking guidance and support on co-parenting children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Increased awareness of ASD has improved early screening, assessment, and diagnosis.

In British Columbia, 1 in 37 children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). 72% of Canadian children are now diagnosed before the age of 8.

For parents, this diagnosis can bring emotional and financial challenges that contribute to relationship distress. Research indicates that parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience divorce at more than twice the rate of parents with neurotypical children.
